What is a limit?

What are your own limits, can a man know his own limits without another to verify them?

Does your imagination have a limit?

The limit is that beyond which one cannot go or cannot go wholly without fracturing, without leaving traces of oneself behind, and therefore that with respect to which one comes into being as a being with such-and-such attributes, properties, characteristics, and in the case of living things, needs. Limitation is the border contact-point between the reality "inside" and the reality "outside", and manifests as a series of interpretations moving inward and outward. Tectonically speaking this is the threshold at which various plateaus of causalities meet and merge, forming ruptures, porous membranes, mountains and valleys.

In terms of value ontology, the limit is that aspect to the self which defines how and where it will interact with outside values, how its self-valuing will fare against other self-valuings. And self-valuings also possess the capacity to set their own limits, within the limitations of that capacity.

We can know some of our limits, indeed knowledge is a limit and a procession of limitations, but certainly we cannot ever know all of our limits. Although we might theoretically contain all possibly knowable limits within conception, which is the aim of philosophy, to completely delimit the self.

Imagination has limits, certainly. Every thing has limits, else it would not be a "thing".

"Limit" can be misconstrued as "boundary".
Boundary implies a whole, an end/beginning, an absolute.

No absolutes.

A limit is another way of saying what in the past denies us an approach to a projected future object/objective - what is holding us back or determining a limit in our potential.
What we (inter)act with immediately is also determined in the same way.
It becomes the denial of our Will, a resistance.

Imagination is the accumulation combination of experiences.
Experiences are abstractions, generalizations, simplifications of phenomena.
These are stored in memory, in code.

Imagination takes these memories and projects them forward, into the unknown, the yet to be.
The more connected to reality these projections are, the more reference points to the perceived world our abstractions have, all the more useful, and useful our projections, using the imagination, are.
The less attached they are, the more imagination veers into fantasy...the fantastic, the unreal, the supranatural.
Only in sheltering environments, such as modern socio-economic ones, governed by a Nihilistic meme, does this detachment from the world not result in a high cost for the organism.

Boundary does not imply whole or absolute, it implies constrained, delimited form. An edge.

The "absolute" is that without which such finitude cannot exist and never comes into being at all, remains only an "unexpressed potential"-- the absolute is a projected abyss, and a protracted expansion halted via the many productions of time. Consciousness is a system and series of limits, within, through and alongside each other, cascading fractal planes of encounters, deflections, near-misses, and ruptures.

The more limited something is, the more it comes into existence; conversely, the more something is able to be limitless also the more it comes into existence. The capacity for limitlessness is built upon more refined limitation as well as a capacity for strength, to endure existence as a fractured, self-irreducible being. That implies a lot of things, not the least of which are.. perception, imagination, valuing, freedom, "will".

A boundary implies a container, a box, a whole...which is filled or empty...fulfilled or unfulfilled.

The brain, in its emerging primacy, its infancy, is limited by this absolutist method.
Even the idea of a universe implies a containment, a whole, and an outside.
The absolute, no matter what form it takes is an expression of an abstraction...a projection of an object/objective.

If taken literally and not symbolically, artistically, it becomes a representation of a nullification, annihilation, contradiction, of the dynamic, (inter)active, real.
