PostSubject: what I think is.....   Tue Aug 26, 2014 7:26 pm

So here's my first topic with this account.

A friend once told me this ...
"...It's not about love, it's about appreciating something by observing it from a different perspective"

I believe he was right. Mainly because there is no such thing as love, only the choice that comes with what we presume is that 'emotion' therefore mind generated.
Over time I've came to believe that the concept of 'love' comes with what makes you feel good ie; happiness, tranquility, protectiveness, safety, affection....and the like.
On the other hand hatred is the direct opposite, that is what makes you feel bad ie; insecurity, unhappiness, chaos, sense of loss, and the like.

So what is exactly the difference between the two as both are powerful emotions that can change us drastically? Nothing really. We are going to react to these emotions based on our experience, knowledge and environment, and sometimes not even these makes us react.

Individuals are unique, all have their own definition of 'love' where if comes from, what it means and how it's generated so I think that the concept, idea and lore of 'love' in itself is very unique, diverse and complicated for all. Each holding their own meaning, and of course each holding their own story to tell Razz

Your friend's perspective sounds more like "respect' to me -- in other words, taking another look ~~though respect has to be included in authentic love.

Some would define love as simply the chemical cocktails that flow within the human brain. Some would define it as being transcendent, less about feelings though naturally as humans there must be feelings. But still, I do see love as a reality.

But that's called "behavior' and it can point to what is love and what is not love.

So what you're saying here is that a couple who are married and committed to one another - if they feel none of these good things or a few of them are missing, there is not love there?
But of course, it's true what you're saying - authentic love can give rise to these emotions. We are, after all, human.
But I think what you're really referring to is the side of being in love which most crave and look for and the main reason why many fall in love and fall out of love so quicky - those needs are not satisfied.
The only thing which can satisfy them I think is as Fixed Cross spoke about - self valuing. If we're not capable of extending those wonderful qualities towards ourselves by our selves - we'll continue to crave whatever from others.

Might be a part of ourselves which we hate in ourselves if we allow those feelings in ourselves to continue without caring for ourselves.
Aside from that, I've never thought of hate as being the opposite of love but apathy, a lack of caring and empathy and compassion. That's real hatred.

I think that the difference occurs within our behavior our response to them, our self-awareness and our challenge to do no harm within reason. Maybe I didn't fully understand your question.

Hopefully we will also react or respond to them based on the present moment. Life flows on and on. What suited us once doesn't necessarily suit us now. Each moment in time is another context, another interpretation and perhaps another way of responding, a better one.

True, like the concept of a god.

I posted in this thread about a year and a half ago. Won't even bother to look to see what I entered then.

It's both mind and body -generated. Both are inter-connected.
Love can be seen. It's signposts are our responses as human beings, influenced by the chemicals within our brains, our interfacng with the world and with human beings and animals.

Responding in a truly loving way does not necessarily have to do with feeling good. It can sometimes make us feel bad although we realize (mentally speaking) that a greater good may come from it.

On the other hand, some seem to thrive or at least believe that they do, from these negative feelings. What it gives them, supposedly, is the excuse to remain within their weakened state. Perhaps masochism is a form of self-love though mis-directed.

Love builds; hatred destroys, both the hater and the hatee. lol
Sometimes their differences may be seen in their consequences.
That aside, I don't see L&H so much as opposites. They both require passion and spirit.
Apathy is the opposite of love.
Not sure what the opposite of hate - perhaps inner stillness. lol

That perception leaves not much room for change.
Heraclitus said something to the effect that one cannot step into the same river twice. What he failed to say is that we, our Sslves, are or can be the very change which steps into that river.
So, since our E,K & E are ever changing, why would our reactions or responses not change to? Probably because we are not aware that we can be the change/that we have changed. We hold onto what is familiar to us.
