The Great sin, the sin governing all sins, in fact the original sin is transcendence.

In the war against God, the demons' goal is to appropriate intelligent thought in service of finessed transcendence. This is why African states of stupor revitalized demons, and transcendence is the answer to how to achieve joy for the beast in creative pursuits.

I usually call it just "mind", or consciousness, not transcendence, since to me mind isn't some special thing but is the basic, default position. The fact so many other people don't really have minds doesn't concern me, that doesn't change my view on the nature of the mind; yes transcend, but remember this idea also masks the total "normality" of this task and state, the more it is elevated above reality and humanity the more absurd and unlike itself it becomes, like some religious-fantastical dream.

No thunder is going to sound out throughout the hollows of the universe when we find out mind, when we start living in our philosophy and become "sane" like that, just as no special thing happens when people fall in love or achieve something great that formerly had not been.. it's simply a, "oh hey, that happened" kind of thing. I don't like dramatizing it I suppose, for me the concept of transcendence has a connotation lending itself to that dramatizing. Which is fine of course if that's fitting for others or some other purpose.

Man may be alone, we may be alone among men, but we are at the birthplace of it all -- look: the existence of humanity right now, this mind that now walks the earth, is possibly an event no less monumental than the Big Bang, if indeed mankind can manage not to kill itself off or die from an asteroid impact in the next few centuries. Once consciousness takes off there is maybe no stopping it, our universe is still populated with plenty of young stars and isn't that old yet, so what we maybe have the privilege of being a part of is a literal new Big Bang even more significant than the last one that formed this universe. Either that or the distances between stars are really too huge to be breached by anything, in which case it doesn't matter since any mind/species is going to simply exhaust itself in its own little locale and ultimately fade away back into nothingness.

Sin is a very weird idea. I've really never felt anything for this idea, to me it doesn't really have any philosophical substance or significance. That doesn't mean we ought to embrace sin, or reject sin... either one makes no sense to me at all.

Well the point of this thread is that there has been a war over this. The tranquil magnanimy you now inhabit was made possible by the efforts of warriors.

Cool transcendence is the end point, transce endence of sin.

People often tell me I would love yoga, that's the kind of cool I inhabit. But I''m not naive enough, not content enough to withdraw from the war. In this scope, I will not tolerate the void of mind.

I laud that, as yoga is the most selfish and (thus) fireless path, at least here in the west.

The real yogi, the proper master of which there are as many as there are real philosophers, and none in the west, however has advanced investigative (not definitional) notions of the transcendent.

Look at this poem,

Paramahansa Yogananda wrote:
Vanished the veils of light and shade,
Lifted every vapor of sorrow,
Sailed away all dawns of fleeting joy,
Gone the dim sensory mirage.
Love, hate, health) disease, life, death,
Perished these false shadows on the screen of duality.
Waves of laughter, scyllas of sarcasm, melancholic whirlpools,
Melting in the vast sea of bliss.
The storm of maya stilled
By magic wand of intuition deep.
The universe, forgotten dream, subconsciously lurks,
Ready to invade my newly wakened memory divine.
I live without the cosmic shadow,
But it is not, bereft of me;
As the sea exists without the waves,
But they breathe not without the sea.
Dreams, wakings, states of deep turiya sleep,
Present, past, future, no more for me,
But ever-present, all-flowing I, I, everywhere.
Planets, stars, stardust, earth,
Volcanic bursts of doomsday cataclysms,
Creation’s molding furnace,
Glaciers of silent x-rays, burning electron floods,
Thoughts of all men, past, present, to come,
Every blade of grass, myself, mankind,
Each particle of universal dust,
Anger, greed, good, bad, salvation, lust,
I swallowed, transmuted all
Into a vast ocean of blood of my own one Being!
Smoldering joy, oft-puffed by meditation
Blinding my tearful eyes,
Burst into immortal flames of bliss,
Consumed my tears, my frame, my all.
Thou art I, I am Thou,
Knowing, Knower, Known, as One!
Tranquilled, unbroken thrill, eternally living, ever new peace!
Enjoyable beyond imagination of expectancy, samadhi bliss!
Not a mental chloroform
Or unconscious state without wilful return,
Samadhi but extends my conscious realm
Beyond the limits of the mortal frame
To farthest boundary of eternity
Where I, the Cosmic Sea,
Watch the little ego floating in me.
The sparrow, each grain of sand, fall not without my sight.
All space like an iceberg floats within my mental sea.
Colossal Container, I, of all things made.
By deeper, longer, thirsty, guru-given meditation
Comes this celestial samadhi
Mobile murmurs of atoms are heard,
The dark earth, mountains, vales, lo! molten liquid!
Flowing seas change into vapors of nebulae!
Aum blows upon the vapors, opening wondrously their veils,
Oceans stand revealed, shining electrons,
Till, at last sound of the cosmic drum,
Vanish the grosser lights into eternal rays
Of all-pervading bliss.
From joy I came, for joy I live, in sacred joy I melt.
Ocean of mind, I drink all creation’s waves.
Four veils of solid, liquid, vapor, light,
Lift aright.
Myself, in everything, enters the Great Myself.
Gone forever, fitful, flickering shadows of mortal memory.
Spotless is my mental sky, below, ahead, and high above.
Eternity and I, one united ray.
A tiny bubble of laughter, I
Am become the Sea of Mirth Itself.

"my newly wakened memory divine "
I think this is similar to the Heraklean coherence.

Yeaup, this is greater than Heraklean coherence, Heraklean coherence is a joyus participant in that.

In the Orient, they have their task. Mighty are they, wonderous torches of human smallness.

In the west, we still have people to see, places to go, and many different men to see about many different ducks. The smallest gift is as great for these yogis as the most eternal stillness. A gift from themselves, for their self. A gift from us to whoever may inquire.

But Heraklean coherence is still its father, and its nature. There is nothing in here that does not cohere in this way. This is what such a state can become, when a people cultivates the drive to it for thousands of years.

Perfect.

We must always keep it that way. Perhaps this is what philosophy is, the Aegis of order, the security that order never includes itself.
