Kenpo, mixed-martial arts fighting style.

As explained to me when I began receiving instruction is to immediately do as much damage to your opponent(s) so as to end the conflict. Brutal force (bone breakage, the more blood the better, etc.), not necessarily deadly force. That "Do harm" brutal force was the philosophy of my Kenpo instructor.

Has anyone else studied Kenpo and learned a more comprehensive philosophy surrounding it?

I have not but I agree with what you said simply based on the fact that I was a career soldier. Stop the aggression as quickly as possible (with whatever means necessary). Of course, in fair competition you wouldn't use deadly force.

My first sparring competition in full protective gear with a male brown belt who enjoyed teaching my womanhood how to take a brutal face strike turning me into a bobble head. He did exactly what he was told not to do right out of the gate. Did my darndest to dislocate his kneecap and snap his shin but blind rage and concussions don't mix well. So I limped out of there and never returned.

Enjoyed Kenpo up to that experience.

I hear you. Sad that happened. Sad too that the experience caused you to lose interest in the art.

There are men like that. But I would also suggest that whoever set up the matches didn't do a good job.

The competitions are supposed to inspire the students to further their training. They are supposed to be lessons for further training.

I hope the experience didn't totally discourage you. There are other arts that lead down similar paths.

No. I have avoided all that. I do two-sword Tai Chi and that's it. I am a retired Army man and still hold to many of the skills I learned while on active duty.
