I have spoke with a few South Koreans recently and it seems that most South Koreans are not in favor of reunification with the North right now for fear of what it would do to their economy.

Japan did make a lot of investments in South Korea. Helped them to industrialize. Sure, the same thing could be done with the North. But the North needs to have a political revolution first.
