I ate some vegan cheese a few weeks ago.

It tasted like shit. Will never do that again.

I will be eating some limburger cheese tonight.

Limburg is one of 12 provinces of my country. Im glad to know not only "Gouda" makes its way out. We have some of the best cheeses in the world.

Gouda is good. Nice when melted over some shredded chicken with chipotle mayo on a bun.

Lol. I googled that, vegan cheese. It looks very depressing, like an old chicken mc nugget found in a train-ashtray.

Gouda is a collection term for dozens of cheeses coming from a couple of provinces that have been chosen for export. These cheeses are pretty similar in texture.

Best cheese I ever had was when during a school trip we went to visit a monastery that makes its own cheeses (others make beer) - I bought a pound for my parents but was able to only give them 150 grams or so when I got home.

I do also have some Gouda in my fridge. Limburger and Brie are my favorites. Yeah, there's some Brie in my fridge too.

Thanks for the idea. I might try doing something like that soon. I generally buy the smoke flavored Gouda and just slice and eat with maybe crackers or bread.

I used to eat a lot of smoked herring but I got to a point where my body couldn't handle all the salt any more.

I still eat pickled herring. Love it!

I can remember back when I was a kid, when the US was still trading with Russia my dad would buy wood buckets of pickled herring. They were really good. But then when the newly established Soviet Union became an enemy of the USA the import of the herring was forbidden.

I still have one rolled pickled (marinated) herring in my fridge. Distributed by a Danish company, Richter.

Agree. That's bad. I have no idea if it's even available here in the USA anymore. Maybe off the internet but then likely not as it needs to be kept refrigerated.

I did have a herring at the beach today. Very nice.
Seagulls were screaming for a piece. But they did not get it. They can fly, they don't need to complain.

Did you find out where they got their's from?

It is our national food. We fish it in the North Sea.
Every year there is a contest of the best "Hollandse Nieuwe" (Dutch New), meaning the first herring catch of the year. There is a short season in which it is caught and then it is salted, stored in wooden barrels, and sold throughout the year.

Well, sounds like you have first hand knowledge about all this. You have access to better varieties than I do.
