Well, I still remain an American. No, it's not a perfect place but there are still people who are willing to risk their life in order to get here.

Yes, I have read it (The Great Gatsby) but that was a long time ago for some sort of college course. I think I was still in the Army at the time so that would make it somewhere in the later half of the 1970s.

My favorite American novel used to always be the Catcher in the Rye, a bit Camus in New York, whereas British novels I prefer impenetrable like Jane Eyre. I read that for my list early in high school, that made an impression, the rain of these hills still falls down in my soul. Thankfully I like rain.

More American Spirit and Logic in its authors: Hemingway.

Those two books, Gatsby and Old Man, should be each read in a single day, preferably in a single sitting.
