'Mortal as I am, I know that I am born for a day. But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the earth.'
Have been watching the opening at breakfast. What a nice movie this is man. Moviewise, the early nineties are unsurpassed in testicular weight. Except for movies from before WWII like Gone with the Wind, which is some brutal stuff.

On another note, it was a nice surprise that the new Blade Runner didn’t suck.

Finally got around to seeing Alien Covenant, this is a decent movie but mostly is a study in human stupidity. The characters keep making insanely stupid choices and of course are too stupid to realize it. These even make the plot somewhat unrealistic but I think this was done on purpose, basically the message is that humans are really just this fucking stupid. Well it is Ridley Scott’s film so that makes sense.
Brief list of insanely and unbelievably stupid choices:
1- choosing to believe the monumental coincidence atop coincidence of being “randomly” damaged by a cosmic neutrino burst event within range of an uncharted perfect habitable world, on top of that world broadcasting a human signal.
2- choosing to deviate from secure flight plan to investigate this world, despite having over 2000 civilian colonists in board who it is your mission to protect and get to their destination.
3- embarking on the unknown world without helmets, so basically breaking in unknown alien air.
4- somehow not detecting or seeing the buildings/structural remains of a massive civilization right next to where you land.
5- not letting a fellow crew who is in mortal danger out of the medical bay due to risk of contamination, then opening the door a few minutes later anyway after she is already dead.
6- ship crew agreeing to override ship AI control and breach safety limits to approach the planet to “rescue” crew down there despite that there is no way for you to actually land to get to them, and despite just a short time later agreeing it would be pointless and suicidal to do that.
7- the captain saying “I don’t believe in luck” when it comes to the supposedly random cosmic event that damaged their ship, and then a short time later saying they were "lucky to find this uncharted world" that just somehow manages to have a human signal broadcasting from it and human-cultivated vegetation (wheat) on it for no known reason.
I suppose I could go on, but that’s just off the top of my head.

This pattern of unbelievable and contradictory, crazy stupid decisions being made also appears in the new Disney “Star Wars” movie, and in the one before it. I’m left to conclude that this is being done on purpose: plot consistency and believability are being intentionally fucked up in order to fuck with the audiences’ minds. To make people internalize and accept this absolutely crazy irrationality and lack of sense.
Yes, we live in postmodern times. Welcome to the death of the human mind.

And of course if you point out any of this blatant and deliberate inconsistency and stupidity in these movies to anyone they just say “bruh chill it’s just entertainment, stop overanalyzing it”.
I don’t know who to hate more. The psychopathic nihilists who intentionally make these films, or the mentally braindead nihilists who watch them and can’t even bother to give one fuck.

Reminds me also of the Wonder Woman movie, which I still claim is the worst movie ever made. I mean that. This movie has literally no content whatsoever, and due to this it makes absolutely no sense, the plot isn't even shallow it simply does not even fucking exist.
I think Ridley Scotts last truly good movie is Gladiator. Black Hawk Down was pretty good still. White Squall, before Gladiator, was excellent. The Exodus movie wasn't bad. But not memorable. Prometheus was annoying, too "hiply" and no payoff. The Martian actually was fucking amusing. But it doesn't nearly have the caliber of Gladiator. But still his movies are generally very substantial, with cinematic substance I mean, compared to other big budget things that come out. I will definitely watch Alien Covenant.

Yet it is very popular and people love it.
Haha, yes I tried to check if I wanted to watch it a few times and felt as if I was wondering if I should start dining on cockroach feces. I also havent watched, and do not plan on watching the female Ghostbusters movie.

Yeah I’ll never subject myself to that pile of garbage.
I generally like Ridley Scott’s style too, but here he is being sucked into the maw of mindlessness that is the current trend in film, a trend I think is being spearheaded by Disney.

Case in point: Alien Covenant was distributed by 20th Century Fox. I recall hearing that Disney just recently bought 20th Century Fox.
Postmodernism has definitely tainted all his films after Black Hawk Down. It is just a form of moral slacking, of too much irony and facile solutions, both in plot and dialogue. Too much references to "what is, after all, the hip thang" and not enough dialogue standing on its own.
It seems to me that he has withdrawn into his aesthetic genius, and is somewhat content to let the characters be modern pussies while he is making sure it all at least looks classic. That can't be satisfying.
Ill post this again, a talk with a lot of directors including Ridley Scott. It is nice that all these other directors consider him a god.
I repeat I did like the Martian. He opted for developing just one solitary character, which is a great escape from postmodernity. But it doesn't quite reach Dostoyevsky either. Still, Matt Damon is a solid actor, I like most of what he does. The Bourne series is something I thoroughly enjoyed; not in the least for having the first truly menacing martial arts in film since Steven Seagal made B movies.
Cinema violence has taken a new turn after this scene, where the amnesiac Jason Bourne discovers he can fight.
All the fight scenes in the first two movies are standard setting, and all great fistfight on screen since then have been mimicking and developing of that style. It is cinema violence in the best sense, a very solid martial basis enhanced by a highly skilled director to plausibly supernatural levels.
Very rare good movie martial arts so far was with Bruce Lee who from what Ive seen didn't believe in faking, and just kicked the shit out of his co-actors.
Since Bourne exists, also Tom Cruise has made some great hand to hand combat scenes with Jack Reacher. There is a brutal scene where he barely survives and then wins a fight agains two thugs in a very cramped bathroom.
Haha, that is great, the contrasting images. I agree it is good. It doesn't work to her detriment. She is actually emboldened quite a bit. Had my doubts about the movie, but this is cool.
What about Al Pacino? He was with Theron in the Devils Advocate. That is was pretty good movie. Matthew Mcconnahew what is also good in it and Neo is always cold as ice.

I like Pacino, also Jared Leto. These dudes are method actors, it's wonderful.
McConnahey is obviously epic in most of his films. True Detective is, just.... like
Wow
But yeah, I am drinking some nice tequila after having finished the remaining beers I have on hand, and re-watching Atomic Blonde now, it is uniquely pleasurable. I think of Spy Games with Redford and Brad Pitt, also a very nice spy film and nicely done, but this one I think is even better.

I really want to meet Sam S Jackson on a plane one time and say "My name is Snakes." Someone says that in a film playing on the counter on a tv in Home Alone.
